Bristol Avon at Saltford Regatta sponsored by Park Insurance The
2010 regatta will be held on Saturday 22 May. It will include the West of
England Challenge Vase competition for coxed fours. The regatta is organised
by Avon County Rowing Club and takes place on the River Avon at Saltford,
between Bath and Bristol. The course is 1000 m and straight, with a
stake-boat start. BACKGROUND A regatta was held on
this course until 1972, when it moved to Bristol docks. In its heyday, it was
called “the Henley of the West”. The regatta moved back to Saltford in 2008. The history (pdf 491kb) gives a vivid picture of an Edwardian Regatta. |
